iQOO Neo 10 Pro Confirmed Launch in China on November 29; Will Feature MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Chipset

iQOO Neo 10 series is expected to make its debut in China this month, with two models set to be introduced: iQOO Neo 10 and iQOO Neo 10 Pro. Ahead of the anticipated launch, the company has revealed details about the processor which powers the Pro model. The SoC is confirmed to be a flagship chipset sourced from MediaTek, built on TSMC's fabrication process. The launch date of the purported series has also been confirmed, in addition to its colourways and pre-order offers.

In a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, iQOO announced that its latest smartphones, the iQOO Neo 10 series, will debut in China on November 29 at 4 pm local time (approximately 3:30 am IST). The lineup will launch in three colourways: black, orange, and white.

According to the Chinese smartphone maker, prospective buyers can pre-reserve the smartphone series at CNY 2267 (roughly Rs. 26,000). They will be offered additional benefits, such as a Bluetooth speaker, customised tempered glass, and better trade-in offers.

iQOO Neo 10 Pro Chipset (Confirmed)

iQOO Neo 10 Pro is confirmed to be powered by the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, which also powers the Vivo X200 series. The processor features eight cores, comprising a single Arm Cortex-X925 prime core, three Arm Cortex-X4 mid-cores, and four Arm Cortex-A720 efficiency cores. It has support for LPDDR5X RAM and the inclusion of artificial intelligence (AI) features.

The SoC will be paired with an independent Q2 supercomputing chip. The company boasts that its upcoming smartphone will utilise a blue crystal chip technology stack, which is claimed to deliver high performance with low power consumption.

Further, it will also be equipped with Blue Volt technology for longer endurance and faster charging. iQOO Neo 10 Pro will leverage AI features courtesy of the BlueLM AI model.

Realme GT 7 Pro to Launch in India With a Smaller 5,800mAh Battery Compared to China Variant

Realme GT 7 Pro is confirmed to launch in India on November 26, weeks after its debut in China. Ahead of the official launch, the company has teased the upcoming handset's battery capacity and charging speed. As per the details shared on social media, the Realme GT 7 Pro will launch with a smaller battery compared to the model launched in China. Notably, the smartphone maker recently confirmed other details about the handset, such as its chipset, build and camera specifications.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Realme India detailed the battery specifications of the upcoming Realme GT 7 Pro. It is confirmed to launch in India with a 5,800mAh battery. Meanwhile, the handset's China variant is equipped with a 6,500mAh battery, translating into a difference of approximately 700mAh.

This revelation suggests that there might be slight differentiation in terms of specifications between both models.

On the other hand, the Indian variant of the Realme GT 7 Pro will still feature 120W SuperVOOC fast charging support, similar to its Chinese counterpart.

Realme GT 7 Pro is confirmed to be India's first smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It is said to have an AnTuTu benchmark score of over 30,00,000. For optics, the upcoming handset will sport a triple rear camera setup, comprising a 50-megapixel Sony IMX906 primary sensor, a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom, and an 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter.

The company claims Realme GT 7 Pro will support underwater photography with a dedicated mode, courtesy of its IP69-rated build which helps it withstand depths of up to 2 metres for 30 minutes. It also gets a sonic water-draining speaker that ensures no water is retained.

Other confirmed features of the smartphone include Live Photo Capture, AI Snap Mode, and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

Greek Tomb Possibly Holds Alexander the Great's Tunic, New Study Suggests

A cloth fragment discovered in a royal tomb in Greece could be the remains of a tunic once worn by Alexander the Great, according to recent claims by Professor Emeritus Antonis Bartsiokas of Democritus University of Thrace. Found in a tomb near Vergina, a site historically tied to Macedonian royalty, this garment is now believed by Bartsiokas to have belonged not to Alexander's father, Philip II, as previously thought, but to Alexander's half-brother Philip III Arrhidaeus. Arrhidaeus assumed the title of king after Alexander's death, though his capacity to rule was limited by a mental disability.

Debate Surrounding the Tomb's Occupants and Origins

The discovery was published in Journal of Field Archaeology. The discovery of the garment was made in 1977 within a gold chest in a tomb traditionally associated with Philip II. However, Bartsiokas argues that this tomb actually houses the remains of Arrhidaeus and his wife, Eurydice, basing his conclusion on historical records, wall art in the tomb, and an analysis of the garment itself. The tunic, he asserts, may have originally belonged to Alexander but was passed down to Arrhidaeus upon Alexander's death, symbolising continuity within the royal lineage. Testing by other scholars had previously shown that the cloth, dyed purple and containing layers of cotton and huntite, resembled garments worn by Persian kings, adding weight to Bartsiokas' argument.

Scholars' Mixed Responses to the Findings

Experts have responded with varied opinions on Bartsiokas' claims. Senior researcher Hariclia Brecoulaki of Greece's National Hellenic Research Foundation disputed Bartsiokas' identification of the garment as a tunic, suggesting instead that it more closely resembles a scarf used to wrap bones. Additionally, Athanasia Kyriakou, director of the Vergina excavation project at Aristotle University, noted that Bartsiokas had not directly examined the materials and criticised the findings as speculative.

Other scholars provided cautious support. Professor Susan Rotroff, a classics scholar at Washington University in St. Louis, found Bartsiokas' conclusions plausible, noting that the garment's cotton fibres align with a timeline after Alexander's Persian conquests. Richard Janko, a classical studies professor at the University of Michigan, described the research as intriguing but emphasised that the cotton may have reached Greece through trade routes accessible to Philip II.

The debate over the identity of the tomb's occupants continues, but Bartsiokas' hypothesis has spurred renewed discussion on the artefacts and their historical significance in connection with Alexander the Great.

Amber Discovered For the First Time in Antarctica: What You Need to Know

The study was published in Antarctic Science journal and reveals that the amber, known as Pine Island amber, was retrieved using the MARUM-MeBo70 drill rig during a 2017 expedition on the RV Polarstern vessel. This mid-Cretaceous resin is considered a significant breakthrough as it suggests that a swampy temperate rainforest, dominated by coniferous trees, thrived in the region during a much warmer period in Earth's history. According to Dr. Henny Gerschel from the Saxon State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology, the amber likely contains tiny fragments of tree bark, preserved through micro-inclusions. Its solid, translucent quality indicates that it was buried close to the surface, protecting it from thermal degradation.

The presence of pathological resin flow within the amber offers clues into the defence mechanisms used by ancient trees against environmental stressors like parasites or wildfires. "This discovery hints at a much richer forest ecosystem near the South Pole during the mid-Cretaceous," Dr. Klages explained, noting the resin's defensive chemical and physical properties that protected it from insect attacks and infections.

Voyager 2's Historic Flyby of Uranus Exposes Rare Magnetic Distortion

A recent analysis of 38-year-old data from NASA's Voyager 2 spacecraft has provided fresh insights into the unique magnetosphere of Uranus, according to a study published on November 11 in Nature Astronomy. During Voyager 2's 1986 flyby, Uranus' magnetosphere was found to be unexpectedly distorted by a blast of solar wind. The findings suggest that the planet's magnetic field behaves unlike any other in the solar system.

Findings Highlight Unusual Magnetic Structures

Jamie Jasinski, a planetary scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and California Institute of Technology, and lead author of the study, noted that Voyager 2's timing happened to coincide with an intense solar wind event, a rare occurrence near Uranus. This compression of Uranus's magnetosphere, seen only around 4% of the time, is thought to be responsible for the unique measurements Voyager captured. Had the spacecraft arrived even a week earlier, Jasinski observed, these conditions would likely have been different, possibly leading to alternative conclusions about Uranus's magnetic characteristics.

Unlike Earth, Uranus exhibits a complex “open-closed” magnetic process, influenced by its extreme axial tilt. This tilt subjects Uranus to highly variable solar wind effects, resulting in a magnetosphere that opens and closes cyclically.

Implications for Future Uranus Exploration

The study's conclusions go beyond Uranus itself, offering insights into the magnetic behaviours of its outermost moons, including Titania and Oberon. These moons, it turns out, lie within Uranus's magnetosphere rather than outside it, making them candidates for investigations into subsurface oceans through magnetic field detection. As Jasinski highlighted, these conditions would simplify detecting any magnetic signatures that suggest liquid beneath the moons' icy surfaces.

While Voyager 2 remains the only mission to visit Uranus, the study's findings underscore a growing interest in exploring the ice giant in greater detail.

Archaeologists have uncovered a rock shelter in Tajikistan's Zeravshan Valley that was occupied by multiple human species, including Neanderthals, Denisovans, and Homo sapiens, for over 130,000 years. Discovered along the Zeravshan River in the Inner Asian Mountain Corridor (IAMC), this site, known as Soii Havzak, provides new insight into the migration patterns of ancient humans. Researchers believe the IAMC may have facilitated interactions between these groups, offering clues about how they lived and possibly coexisted in Central Asia.

A team led by Dr Yossi Zaidner, senior lecturer at the Institute of Archaeology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, recently excavated the site. Evidence of various human occupations was found, including stone tools and animal bones dating from 150,000 to 20,000 years ago. Zaidner noted that Central Asia's IAMC could have served as a natural migration route, allowing distinct human populations to cross paths. "This discovery is crucial for understanding ancient human presence in Central Asia and how different human species may have interacted here," he stated in a press release.

Artifacts from Soii Havzak, including stone blades, rock flakes, crafted flints, and signs of fire use, suggest repeated use of the shelter by different human groups. The find highlights Central Asia's significance in ancient migration routes, with the Zeravshan River likely serving as a pathway for early humans as they dispersed across continents.

A Pathway for Ancient Civilisations

Beyond its prehistoric importance, the Zeravshan Valley later became a key route on the Silk Road, linking distant civilisations such as China and Rome. Researchers expect further studies at Soii Havzak to shed light on the broader implications of this region in ancient human migration and cross-cultural interactions, aiming to deepen understanding of human history and evolution during the Middle Paleolithic era.
